1991 Talon: 0-100mph in 7.43 seconds (with video)

So, what does my old 1991 Talon Tsi AWD Turbo have in common with the 2008 Corvette ZO6, 2008 Dodge Viper, 2008 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, 2008 Audi R8 and the 2007 Mustang Shelby GT 500? It's quicker than all of them from 0 to 100mph! For those that may think I'm smoking something, I've compiled all of the specs from those vehicles at the bottom of this post.

Last weekend I took the old girl back to the local 1/8 mile dragstrip to have a
little fun before winter sets in and to see if I could improve on my previous best 1/8 mile ET and MPH. I wasn't expecting a great ET, as I'm still babying it off the line to preserve the stock 3 bolt rear differential and 100% stock transmission, but I did nail a 100mph trap speed! Also, with some basic math, my 0-60mph time is an estimated 2.66 seconds. Fun!

Here's a picture of the timeslip, a few pictures from the track, and an in-car video of the run prior to the 7.43 run, which was a 7.50 at 100mph.

The video shows you in the left lane but your time slip you showed was in the right lane? If it really went 7.43 good time, But its questionable.

Nice catch! The run in the video wasn't the same one shown on the timeslip. The run in the video was actually of my previous run that day, which was a 7.50 at 100mph. The two runs looked identical from the in-car cam.

Right on Tom.

Nice turn in - what turbo/intake exhaust you using?

Oh, and for you nay sayers - Tom is just breaking the tip of the 4g63 iceberg here - no really *serious* modifications here, drive train is in peril from higher end mods- this is a well tweaked stocker if I'm not mistaken.

If your looking for serious, you might consider Brent Rau or John Shepherd. These guys are making between 9 and 11 hp/cubic inch.

Nice time. As for comparing it with new, stock cars a big fat "who gives a fuck?"

Think you could best that Z06 around a proper race track? :)

Dear Anonymous,

Did I say that my old 1991 Talon could best these cars on a proper race track? In fact, it's absurd to think that it would even be possible without MAJOR suspension and braking modifications.

That said, do you have a Z06? I sure would like to give it a try! :-)

How well will the stock transmission hold up to this kind of use?

ok the car ran a 7.43 at 100mph a good stock transmission could hold a couple runs. Have a buddy with 500hp+ galant vr4 lasted about a year. Compared to 50,000$+ cars i would still go with the 4g63.
